Alleging that work was not being carried out as per the plans, a public interest litigation in the Bombay High Court today sought a stay on the renovation work at Mantralaya (secretariat) here which was ravaged by a fire in June 2012.

Petitioner, RTI activist Ganesh Pawar contended that the renovation work was a "sham" as it was not being done as per the plans drawn up by the authorities.

"Public money is going down the drain and into the pockets of vested interests," the plea said.

Though the state government is yet to file a reply, government pleader Sandeep Shinde denied the allegations when the matter came up for hearing today.

The hearing has been adjourned for two weeks.
