Family of Deshraj Singh, a gardener who lost his life in the attack, also expressed their gratitude to the President for rejecting Guru's mercy petition. Expressing happiness over the hanging of Afzal Guru, Deshraj's father Phool Singh said his son has received tribute in the true sense today. The martyr's wife, Munesh Devi, said their happiness was mixed with sadness due to the loss they have suffered. "Afzal Guru should have been hanged soon after the incident...Justice to us has been delayed. Government has wasted crores on Afzal, while we have only suffered," she said.
