PILGRIMS --------------- Jammu: Twenty pilgrims were injured when a bus in which they were travelling overturned at Mayari area in Katra, the base camp of the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi today, police said. The bus was on way to Katra from Jammu, they said. ----------- PANCHAYAT ----------- Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government today said it is committed to put in place a three-tier system of governance in the state. "The government has created a watershed in the political history of the state by holding elections to the panchayats and ensuring empowerment of 14 vital departments," Rural Development and Panchayat minister Ali Mohammad Sagar told panchayat members of Udhampur district's Majalta block during an interaction session. "The government is committed to put in place a three-tier system of governance to ensure democratic decentralisation of powers so that people at grassroot level are involved in policy formulation," he said. ------------------- CARNIVAL ------------ Jammu: Skiing, sledging and tug of war were the main attractions of a two-day winter carnival which begins at Patnitop, about 112 km from here, today. The carnival, organised by J&K Tourism Department in collaboration with Patnitop Development Authority, aims at attracting maximum tourists and winter sports enthusiasts to the picturesque destination.
