Reply to Pakistan in its own language, says Shiv Sena

Shiv Sena today said Pakistan should be given a reply in its own language and sought to know from Prime Minister Narendra Modi what exactly he is going to do in response to the audacious Uri terror attack that left 18 jawans dead.

Asserting that talks with Pakistan is not going to yield any positive result, Sena President Uddhav Thackeray said it was high time the neighbouring country was given a reply in its own language.

Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana' carried a stinging editorial, the second on the issue since the September 18 assault, needling Modi, saying mere statements would not serve any purpose as happened after the Pathankot attack in January.
 

"Talking with Pakistan won't work now. It is now high time that it is answered in its own language. If war (with Pakistan) is to take place, it should be for well-being of the nation, not for votes. When will we finally understand Pakistan's language," Thackeray told reporters here.

Asked if he had spoken to the Prime Minister on the issue, Uddhav said, "he must be busy talking to Pakistan right now. When he gets free, we will talk."

Thackeray, whose party is a long-time ally of the BJP, said the Uri strike has set off a wave of anger among the masses and Modi is well poised to take definite action against the neighbouring country owing to the overwhelming majority the saffron outfit has in the Lok Sabha.

"If you keep doing what the previous Governments did, how can you say there is an atmosphere of change in the country? It seems the Government is of the view that those who want to shed tears may do so, we will continue to go to Pakistan to have tea and continue to welcome their artists and sports-persons here," he said.

He said people have made Modi the Prime Minister trusting the promises he had made ahead of elections, which now needs to be fulfilled.

"This is not the first time they have attacked us. They recently stabbed us with the Pathankot attack. There is no use of merely expressing anger against Pakistan."

Dubbing Pakistan as a "shameless" country that would not be affected by any international condemnation, Saamna editorial demanded "revenge" on the neighbour and asked the PM to spell out how exactly he is going to respond to the Uri attack.

"While the PM says Pakistan will be taught a lesson and would not be allowed to go scot-free after killing our soldiers, he needs to clearly state what exactly will he do. He had made similar statements after the terror strike at Pathankot air base," the Sena organ said.
