Claiming that frequent media reports about traffic cops accepting bribe are sullying its image, a senior police officer has asked Lucknow Traffic Police to launch "internal operation clean".

"Pictures of traffic policemen indulging in corruption and laxity are there in newspapers for the past few days. These are creating adverse image of the department. I want to clarify that such activities are more reported nowadays," Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police R K Chaturvedi said.

He conveyed this in a letter to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Traffic Brijesh Kumar Mishra, who joined the post recently.

"You are running 'operation clean' in the city for improvement in traffic system. It's a good initiative. However, you should also run internal operation clean to check negative image of Traffic Police," Chaturvedi said.

In his warning, the DIG said he would himself review the situation after 15 days and if he found something objectionable he would initiate action.

"If such a thing is found, I will also have to make an adverse impression about you (ASP)," Chaturvedi added.
