Fourteen officials of the border guarding force Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) were decorated with the President's police medals for meritorious and distinguished service on Republic Day.
Those awarded included Assistant Director K M Cariappa, the senior most publicity officer of the force.
The officer, who joined the SSB in 1989, was decorated with the distinguished medal for rendering exceptionalservices in the field of publicity and perception and border management.

The officer, at present, is chronicling the history of the paramilitary force that is tasked to guard Indian borders with Nepal and Bhutan.
The SSB is about 80,000 personnel strong and works under the command of the Union Home Ministry.
