Security arrangements have been stepped up across Punjab and Haryana, including in Chandigarh, in view of the Republic Day functions tomorrow.

The security was beefed up at vulnerable places, including parade grounds where the functions will be held, important bus stands, railway stations and government buildings by the deployment of additional forces in Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory, officials said.

Services of dog and bomb squads have been taken for the vulnerable places across the two states, they said.

Vehicles entering into towns are being checked and hotels are under observation of the security forces, they said.

On the 69th Republic Day tomorrow, Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore will unfurl the tricolour at a state-level function in Pathankot and Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki will hoist the national flag in Ambala.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will hoist the tricolour at Patiala and his counterpart in Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, will unfurl the national flag at Rohtak, an official release said.

Ministers of Punjab and Haryana have been deputed to preside over the celebrations at various district headquarters.
