The Border Security Force has sought mobile interceptors to effectively stop smuggling of drugs from across the border and is awaiting the Union Home Ministry's response, a top BSF official said today.

"The Chief of BSF's Punjab Frontier had written a letter to the Home Ministry seeking facilities of mobile interceptor almost over a year ago. We are waiting for response from the Ministry," the official told PTI.

"The request is under consideration and we hope the ministry approves this facility for the Punjab Frontier as soon as possible," he said.

Former Inspector General of Punjab Frontier A K Tomar had written the letter to the Home ministry requesting for mobile interceptors as the force felt that it will allow them to keep a tab on the activities of smugglers.

"Plans to smuggle contraband from both the sides take place on mobile conversations. If we have interceptors, we will be able to trace telephone calls and thus prevent smuggling," he said.
