(TEA) today requested the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to take steps to reduce the fee collected at newly set up Karumathampatti toll gate from Rs 80 to Rs 40.

In a letter to NHAI Chairman Raghav Chandra, TEA president A Shaktivel said the regular passers by vehicle were really shocked to notice that IVRCL Chengapalli Tollways Ltd, some 20 Kms from here, is collecting a toll fee of Rs 80 for cars for one way trip, which is too high compared to fee collected in other toll gates.

The regular users of road were affected by this abnormal toll collection which needed to be reduced, he said and requested the official to look into the issue and help to reduce the fee for one way car trip to Rs 40.

Stating that the Coimbatore bypass, which become operational in 2000, connecting Neelambur on Salem side of NH-47 Tamil Nadu and Madukkarai to Palaghat side in Kerala was in poor condition, Shaktivel said that due to this the traffic was congested at times and passer by vehicles were finding it difficult reach the destination in time even after paying the toll fee.

Despite toll fee is being collected on this bypass road, the condition of the road is bad, damaged and not maintained properly, he said and requested to advice to maintain the road properly till L and T operating and before transferring to NHAI.
