A tiger which was rescued from Central Institute of Agriculture Engineering (CIAE) campus here three days ago has started to adapt to the new environment at the Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR), officials said.
The stripped-animal had sneaked into CIAE complex in Nabi Bagh area here on Thursday, and was rescued by trained rescue team of Van Vihar National Park.
The big cat was named as 'Tiger (T-7)' and has started to adapt itself to the new environs, a Public Relation Department official said.
The tiger was released into the Badgadi enclosure at PTR and is healthy, the official said, adding that it remained still on day one but has started its feline activities and the Reserve officials are keeping a close watch on it.
Soon, the tiger will be radio-collared for constant monitoring. With the arrival of this tiger, number of tigers in Panna has reached to 32, the official said.
The rescue team succeeded in tranquilising the animal and after administering antidote, it was taken to Van Vihar. Following health examination, it was decided to release the big cat in the natural habitat at Panna and was shifted there the next day.
Spread over 542 sq kms in Panna and Chhatarpur districts, PTR had lost all its felines to poaching four years back, but it now boasts 32 big cats, thanks to the Tiger Reintroduction programme.
