Residents of Khoda colony led by Congress leaders held a protest in front of the district collectorate demanding the status of municipal corporation for their colony.

Addressing party workers and residents during the protest yesterday, Congress leader Doris Francis said irrespective of political inclinations of the Khoda colony residents, the state government must grant it the status of a municipal corporation.

A memorandum was also submitted to district magistrate addressed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party MLA from Sahibabad constituency Amarpal Sharma said a grant of Rs 300 crore was sanctioned for the development of Khoda colony during the BSP regime in 2011 but the Samajwadi Party government scrapped it after coming to power in 2012.

Alleging that the government is not paying any heed to their demands, Sharma said he had thrice raised this demand in state Assembly and added that he had personally met chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to brief him about the situation.
