Demanding setting up of an agriculture university in Balangir district of Odisha, residents today formed a human chain at the district headquarter town.

Under the banner of Krishi Viswavidyalala Kriyanustan Committee, noted citizens, members of 105 organisations, clubs and school and college students took to the streets in support of their demand.

Earlier, the committee had organised several meetings and demonstrated in front of the collectorate for the purpose. A series of meetings were also organised in different parts of the district to create awareness and public demand on the issue.

Convenor of the committee, Pramod Mishra said the demand for setting up an agriculture university in Balangir was genuine as it was a poor and migration prone district, needing more help from the state.

"The govt should listen to the voice of the district. Today's human chain showed public voice is in support of the issue," he added.
