Delhi Urban Development Minister A K Walia today said government has finalised a scheme to offer free hold rights to occupants of the colonies and an approval of the Union Urban Development Ministry will soon be sought in this regard.
"We have decided to grant free hold rights to these 45 colonies which were developed in 1970s. The issue will be taken up by the Cabinet soon," he said.
Around 15 lakh people are putting up in these colonies and they are finding it difficult to effect transfer of title as free hold rights were not offered yet.
"Hence, it has been decided to grant freehold rights to the allottees," he said.
The Minister said residents of 567 colonies which were regularised in 1980s have been finding it difficult to get their property registered as land in these colonies was not de-notified by the Delhi Development Authority.
"We will also take steps to de-notify the land. An administrative order will be issued after seeking approval of the Lt Governor," he said after holding a meeting with top officials of his department.
About the regularisation of over 1,200 colonies, he said the process has already been expedited.
He said government was trying to find a solution to regularise 156 unauthorised colonies which partly fall under forest land.
The Minister said government has decided to expedite the process to demarcate boundaries of the colonies jointly by the Forest Department and Revenue Department.
