Fed up over official apathy in providing them basic infrastructure, residents of an area in the city and also estate workers of Pannimedu in Pollachi have decided to boycott the April 24 Lok Sabha polls.

Over 300 residents of Anbunagar area have hoisted flags atop their homes and also put up posters, barring entry of politicians to their area for their 'failure' to provide drinking water and underground drainage, police said.

In Pannimedu, over 3,000 estate workers and their families decided not to exercise their franchise, saying the civic body had not paid heed to their repeated appeals to lay a proper 13 km road in the area, connecting neighbouring Kerala.

Police quoted the workers as saying the promises remained only on paper and the municipality has shown scant respect to their demands, following which they took the decision.
