Taking part in the debate over the resolution, MLA Gidderbaha Raja Warring said that Punjab had accomplished a major feat by ensuring seamless procurement in both the seasons.
The Congress government had facilitated the smooth procurement of 165.80 lakh MT of wheat in the Rabi season soon after coming to power, he said, adding that it also ensured prompt payment for crops, providing relief to lakhs of farmers.
The MLA said that 192 lakh MT of paddy has already been procured in the ongoing Kharif season.
He also lauded the chief minister for fulfilling his promise of ensuring full price for crops by increasing prices of the common variety from Rs 1,470 to Rs 1,550 and of Grade A paddy from Rs 1,510 to Rs 1,590.
MLA Ferozpur City Parminder Singh Pinki said that the quick procurement and payment gave farmers the much-needed relief, and was a matter of pride for the government.
By ensuring that farmers are supplied genuine high yielding pesticides, the chief minister has strengthened the financial state of farmers, enabling them to record much higher turnover of paddy and wheat, Pinki claimed.
