Most parties in Uttar Pradesh have said they will abide by Allahabad High Court's order staying caste-based rallies in Uttar Pradesh.

The chief spokesman of the BJP's state unit, Vijay Bahadur Pathak, said that his party respects the decision prohibiting caste-based rallies.

He alleged that some political parties were trying to divide society by organising caste-based meetings.

There should be no politics in the name of caste and religion and BJP has never organised any such sammelan, he said.

Samajwadi Party national secretary Ram Asrey Kushwaha echoed BJP's views when he said that his party would honour the court order.

However, he said that the causes which necessitated the HC stay needed to be enquired into.

There is competition in politics and if one party organises a caste-based rally, another thinks of following suit.

Senior Congress leader and MLA Akhilesh Pratap Singh, meanwhile, said his party has never given preference to caste-based rallies.

Such events disturb communal harmony and send a wrong message to people, Singh said.

CPI state secretary Girish, too, welcomed the decision.
