Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 41.5 degrees celsius and a minimum of 28.4 degrees celsius. The humidity levels were high at 72 per cent.
Uttar Pradesh got some respite from the heat wave with parts of the state receiving moderate to heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours.
The day temperatures fell quite a bit in Meerut, Moradabad, Lucknow, Bareilly and Agra due to the rains, the Met office said.
But the temperatures were appreciably above normal in the Allahabad division. The highest maximum temperature in the state was 43.6 degrees celsius recorded at Etawah.
Rain and thundershowers have been predicted at some places over eastern UP and at isolated places over the western region.
The searing heat wave ebbed in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh as well, with light rains at many places pushing down temperatures.

Chandigarh saw an overcast sky and some parts witnessed a drizzle, forcing down the maximum temperature by four notches since yesterday to settle at 37.8 degrees Celsius, the MeT office said.
Himachal Pradesh saw a dip in the mercury level following a bout of heavy rain in many parts of the state.
