Delhi Development Authority (DDA) today informed the National Green Tribunal that it has decided to form quick response teams to deal with dumping of construction waste in the Yamuna.
The urban body, in an affidavit, stated that it has started compliance of the directions to clean Yamuna under the green panel's "Maily Se Nirmal Yamuna Revitalization Project, 2017".
The authority also informed the tribunal that it has engaged security guards to prevent the dumping of debris and keep round-the-clock vigil on the banks of the river.
On the issue of demarcation of flood plains, DDA stated that it has already awarded contract to the person concerned and engaged night watchmen to keep an eye on flood plains.
Advocate Kush Sharma, representing DDA, told PTI that all the directions of the tribunal are being complied with.
"We have identified places for installation of CCTV and challaned six people till date for throwing puja material in the river. The list has been submitted to the tribunal," he said.
In order to control throwing of material into Yamuna and dumping waste in its flood plain, the tribunal had suggested installation of CCTVs at different locations.
Cracking the whip on those polluting Yamuna, NGT had passed a slew of directions including a fine of Rs 5,000 on individuals throwing waste or religious items in the river and banned dumping of construction material while imposing a fine of Rs 50,000 on violators.
