Moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today made potentially controversial remarks about safety of women, putting the onus on them to "make decency a compulsory part" of their lives for a better society.
"... It is the responsibility of the women to make decency a compulsory part of their lives to contribute in making a better society," he said in a statement here issued on the eve of International Women's Day.
He made these remarks while expressing concern over the ever-increasing crime against women.
At the same time he said the "irresponsible attitude" adopted by government and society as a whole towards protection and respect of women's rights has led to the rise in inhuman and ghastly crimes against the women at every level.
