The owner of a restaurant here was shot dead today in broad daylight allegedly by a group of unidentified youths.

According to police, the victim has been identified as 35- year-old Sushil Chaudhary, a resident of Ganganagar here who owned the restaurant located on Divider Road in the same locality.

Police said that the incident occurred in the afternoon as Chaudhary was standing outside the restaurant, chatting with some youths who were inside a car. Suddenly, an altercation ensued between them during which one of the youths inside the car pulled out a rifle and fired at Chaudhary.

The youths then fled in the car, police said, adding that the entire incident was caught on a CCTV camera placed outside the restaurant. The footage is being studied for clues as to the identity of the assailants, police said, adding that the body has been sent for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the shooting sparked outrage among local traders who have threatened to launch a stir unless those responsible for Chaudhary's killing are arrested immediately.

A leader of the BJP's traders' wing said that the manner in which the assailants had acted showed that criminals in Uttar Pradesh had no fear of police.
