Resting places for commuters along highways: Oscar

The government today assured that there will be adequate resting places along the the National Highways for the convenience of long distance commuters.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has decided to develop Research and Test Reaches from budgetary resources which may serve the purpose of rest lay bys for the road users and providing basic facilities, an official statement said.

"The rising trend in long distance haulage necessitates availability of adequate resting places along the routes," Road Minister Oscar Fernandes said in the statement.

These would be maintained through private participation, he added.

The minister, while chairing the meeting of Consultative Committee attached to the Road Ministry today, Fernandes said that tremendous development of National Highways has thrown open various challenges.
 

The other members of the committee emphasised that implementation of schemes and laws needs to be monitored and ensured to bear fruits.
