A former Wing Commander who worked at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) here has been sentenced by a CBI court to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment for five years on the charge of making false claims of TA and DA for his official journeys.

Convicting K.S.Tewari, who was the Deputy Chief Communications Pilot at HAL complex here, CBI Special Judge Pradeep S Balikai in his order yesterday also slapped a fine of Rs 4 lakh for each of the punishable offences under different sections of IPC, including 420 (cheating), and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

CBI's anti-corruption bureau had registered a case in 2003 in this connection.

It was alleged that while functioning in the Aircraft Division at the HAL from 1997 to 2003 Tewari had entered into a criminal conspiracy with a Chief Supervisor at HAL Transport Aircrafts Division, Kanpur, and proprietor of a restaurant at a hotel, to cheat HAL by making false TA and DA claims in respect of his official journeys, causing "wrongful" loss to the company.

The charge sheet was filed in December, 2004.
