A retired Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commandant allegedly committed suicide in south Delhi's Vasant Vihar area here this morning, police said.

Brij Bhushan Sharma, 78, shot himself in the head with his licensed revolver in the bathroom of his residence. He lived in an apartment in Munirka area with his differently-abled son.

His son heard the sound of a gunshot following which he raised an alarm. A neighbour then informed police which rushed to the spot and broke open the bathroom door.

"The body was found in the bathroom in a pool of blood and the revolver was also found on the spot," said a police official.

The body has been sent for postmortem although no suicide note was found from the spot.

Initial investigations showed Sharma had been depressed for the past few days. Although it was not immediately clear what was the reason behind it, neighbours indicated that he was worried about his differently-abled son and an old property dispute.

Sharma retired from CRPF in 1993. His wife earlier died passed away and he is survived by two sons. The one, who is differently-abled, lived with him while the other lives in Nigeria and works there, police said.
