Retired CRPF Director General Prakash Mishra was today appointed as the new chief of Civil Defence and Home Guards on a re-employment basis.
The 1977-batch Odisha cadre IPS officer will be heading the force for two years and has been tasked to revive the organisation that comprises Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards.
A Home Ministry order said Mishra's appointment was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister.

Mishra retired from service as the Central Reserve Police Force chief in February this year and has been credited with bringing down casualty figures of the personnel of the country's largest paramilitary force, largely on account of anti-Naxal operations.
Officials said Mishra took over his charge and carried out a review of the force that functions under the Union Home Ministry.
