Retired IAS officer killed by speeding car in Delhi

A 62-year-old retired IAS officer died after being hit by a speeding car at Mahipalpur flyover in South Delhi today while he was repairing his car on the roadside.

The deceased has been identified as Arjun Kumar Jain, a resident of Gurgaon.

"Jain was returning home with his daughter in his black Hyundai car. When they reached near Mahipalpur flyover, the car developed snag. He parked it on the roadside and got down to look at the problem.

"As he was repairing, a speeding car hit him and dragged him for a few metres," said a senior police official.

The driver of the car fled from the spot. Other vehicles coming from behind alerted the police and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he died.
 

His daughter escaped unhurt.

The body of the officer has been handed over to his family and a case against unknown person has been registered.

"Further investigation is underway," said the senior police official.

In a separate accident, a bike rider was crushed to death by a speeding tractor in east Delhi's phase 3 area today. The youth, who was riding a motorbike was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Efforts are on to nab the errant driver, police said.
