Retired judge of J & K High Court to probe Kishtwar riots

Justice R C Gandhi, a retired judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, will head the one-man Commission of Inquiry to probe the incidents of violence and arson that had rocked Kishtwar on August 9.

Justice Gandhi will inquire into the circumstances which led to the outbreak of violence and arson and consequent loss of lives and properties and administrative lapses, if any, in handling the situation, a government order said late tonight.

The Commission will also fix responsibility of persons involved in the violence and arson.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had announced the judicial probe immediately after the riots which left three persons dead.
 

The Commission will submit its report within a month.

Curfew was imposed in Kishtwar on August 9 and had remained in force for 13 days before being lifted on August 21.

Sajjad Kichloo had to resign as Jammu and Kashmir Home Minister in the wake of the riots.
