A 61-year-old retired Railway employee allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of Rail Bhavan here today.

The deceased, Malleshwar Chandra, was a retired Railway employee and had come to meet his ex-colleagues in Rail Bhavan, police said.

"He was spotted sitting in the balcony and the next moment it was discovered that he had jumped. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors," said a senior police officer.

Chandra had retired in February this year and was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression for a long time.

His family members said he was suffering from depression since 2006 and certain "family problems" were also playing on his mind, police said.

No suicide note was recovered and police are investigating the matter by questioning his family members and friends.
