Revelry:Mumbai cops collected over Rs 5 lakh fine from traffic

The city police have collected fine of over Rs 5 lakh from persons for violating traffic rules during the New Year eve revelry, an official said here today.

"The total fine collected by the traffic department was Rs 5.63 lakh from persons who violated various traffic rules," a Mumbai police official said.

Police had taken stringent measures like putting barricades at various places here to curb traffic offences last night, he said.

"To check drunken driving, tests through breath analyser were conducted. 705 drunk driving cases and 58 rash driving cases were registered. Besides these, 1,135 persons were fined for parking at wrong places and 1,906 were slapped a fine for driving without helmets," the official added.
