Revenue officer caught taking Rs 40000 as bribe

A revenue official was caught red-handed while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 in a village near here, Lokayukta Police said today.

Patwari Mangilal Atoria, posted at Sarvan village in the distirct had demanded Rs 2 lakh from the complainant Ramchandra Gurjar for providing official measurement of his land that he had purchased from Nandu Mongia recently, Lokayukta Inspector Basant Shrivastava said.

Atoria later demanded Rs 50,000 as first instalment of the bribe from Gurjar, following which the latter tipped-off the Lokayukta police.

A trap was laid recently and the officer was nabbed red-handed accepting bribe of Rs 40,000.
 

A case has been lodged under relevant section of Prevention of Corruption Act against Atoria and further investigations were on, police added.
