Revenue official booked for graft by ACB sleuths

A talathi (revenue official) was trapped today by the Raigad unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), ACB sources said here today.

DSP ACB Thane Range Datta Karale stated in a release issued here today that the revenue official Gopinath Bopi, of Wadav in Pen taluka of the Raigad district had allegedly demanded a bribe from the complainant to update land records relating to purchase of land by his wife and other relatives.

Allegedly, he had demanded Rs 15,000 for himself, Rs 25,000 for the mandal officer of Pen and Rs 1,00,000 for the tehsildar of Pen.

He had allegedly made the demand and accepted the bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant, who lodged a complaint with the ACB.
 

ACB officials have registered offences under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against him with the local police and a probe is on, the ACB chief said.
