Revenue official held for accepting bribe in Madhya Pradesh

A lower-rank revenue official was today held by the sleuths of Lokayukta police for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a tribal farmer in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, police said.

Khalwa town 'patwari' (revenue official) Sureshchandra Bare was caught red handed while accepting the bribe from the farmer, Lokayukta police inspector SPS Raghav said.

The farmer wanted the ownership of his 1.60 hectors land to be registered in his wife's name in the government record and for this purpose the accused was demanding a bribe, the inspector said.

Following a complaint, a trap was laid at the Khar square in Khalwa town and Bare was nabbed while taking the bribe, he added.
 

A case under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and investigations are underway, the officer said.
