Puducherry government has placed under suspension a Deputy Tahsildar, a Revenue Inspector and a Village Administrative Officer for issuing a fake certificate to a girl student from Tamil Nadu declaring her to be native of Puducherry to enable her to join a medical college under government quota here.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy announced this in the assembly after question time.

He said that the seat earmarked for the girl student was being re-allotted to another student.

He said the government was also scanning certificates of seven more candidates who had joined the professional course allegedly on the basis of fake certificates of nativity.

AIADMK Deputy Legislature Party leader A Anbalagan had presented a complaint in the House recently stating that the girl student had submitted a fake certificate of nativity although her parents were working in government service in Dindigul.

Members cutting across party lines today brought to the notice of the government the rise in number of stray dogs in in Puducherry posing threat to the public.

The members were participating in the debate that followed after the Local Administration Minister N G Panneerselvam presented the reply on the subject raised by A.Anbalagan (AIADMK) through a call attention motion.

Parliamentary Secretary to Chief Minister M Vaithianathan told the House that he was bitten by a stray dog when he was returning after attending a function in the heart of the town and had medical treatment spending around Rs 5000.

Panneerselvam said the government was taking steps to arrest the dog menace.
