The East Godavari district administration has handed over the revised master plan for Kakinada city to a Hyderabad-based architectural firm.
"The revised master plan on changed demographics and other conditions has been handed over to the Aarvee Associates Architects Engineers and Private Consultants," said East Godavari district collector Neetu Kumari Prasad in a press release here today.
The first Kakinada master plan was architected in 1975 and has been in force for over 35 years. The new master plan is prepared on the changing scenario as Central government has announced setting up of new industries in the district and steps are also being taken for development of Kakinada on various fronts like drinking water, drainage, roads and rail, traffic and development of port, the collector said.
The revised master plan also covers areas within 5 km radius on the outskirts of the city.
"The main objective of the plan is to meet demands of growing population," the collector said, adding that the administration has sought views of general public, organisations, industrialists and other stake-holders on the blueprint.
Prasad said that a meeting will be held on July 21 to elicit different views on the plan.
She also said that a draft master plan for Rajahmundry town is ready and it will be published shortly.
"We are taking all precautions to utilise maximum resources available in the district to yield good results. The revised master plan is prepared for next 20 years i.E. Till 2025," she added.
The collector said that the Centre had announced setting up of the Petroleum, Chemicals Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) between Visakhapatnam-Kakinada in the union Budget.
"The Centre also sanctioned an energy terminal at Vakkalapudi in Kakinada, a mini-fishing harbour at Uppada, a hardware park, expansion of a four-way line between Kakinada and Rajahmundry canal road, besides the development of tourism project in the district," she said.
