A rhino calf and two baby elephants will be taken to the Alipore Zoological Gardens from Jaldapara, a top forest officer said today.

The three-month-old male rhino calf and two female baby elephants, of 3 and 4 years age, would be taken to country's oldest zoological park, also known as 'Kolkata Chiriakhana', open since 1876.

Divisional Forest Officer, Wildlife III, Rajendra Zakhar said, while the rhino calf had been separated from mother and hence reared in the wildlife sanctuary of Jaldapara, the two baby jumbos had strayed from herd and not taken back and brought up here.

The animals would be formally taken to the Kolkata zoo by road after a formal flagging off by West Bengal Forest MInister Binoy Krishna Burman.
