The carcass of the male rhino was found by patrolling forest personnel last evening at Bansbari range of the Park.

The rhino had been earlier translocated to Manas National Park from Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary under Indian Rhino Vision 2020.

This was the third translocated rhino poached at Manas National Park during the last two years.

'Aaranyak', a society for biodiversity conservation in North East India, has expressed deep concern over the continued poaching of rhinos in different parts of Assam.

Its secretary general Bibhab Talukdar today urged the government to take stern action against erring forest staff if found guilty of negligence and strengthen regular patrol and vigilance.
