Rhino dies in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

An adult female rhino died in the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Morigaon district due to old age, a forest department official said today.

The rhino died last night near Cuplung forest camp in the sanctuary that has the highest density of rhino population in only 16 sq km effective rhino habitat of the 38.80 sq km park, Ashok Das, Ranger of the Sanctuary, said.

Stating that it was a natural death, Das said the rhino was suffering from old age ailments for the last one week.

The carcass was buried inside the sanctuary, about 48 km from Guwahati.
