The Committee verified 1,193 horns in Golaghat, 550 in Nagaon, 118 in Guwahati, 59 in Mangaldoi, 56 in Tezpur, 33 in Barpeta and 22 in Morigaon.

There were altogether 2,038 rhino horns in the treasuries but seven - three in Tezpur and two each in Lakhimpur and Golaghat - could not be verified due to their poor condition.

The authenticity of four horns - three in Barpeta and one in Golaghat - could not be ascertained and has been sent to the Wildlife Institute of India for DNA testing.

A huge horn measuring 45 cms in length with a circumference of 56 cm and weighing 2.564 gms was found during verification, kept in the Guwahati treasury.

The horn has been kept in the treasury since 1961 and was recovered from Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary.
