A court near here today sentenced a 25-year-old man to two-years rigorous imprisonment in a stalking case barely 48 hours after police filed charge sheet.

Judge Y J Tamboli of the Khed court, nearly 45 km from here, also imposed on Atul Patil, a security guard with a private firm in Chakan, a fine of Rs 500 for sending text messages to a woman working in the same office.

According to Chakan police, the 22-year-old woman complained that an unidentified person was harassing her by sending text messages.

"The woman, who was harassed by the constant messages, blocked his number, however, the person kept on sending messages using his friends mobile phones, which prompted her to lodge a police complaint on January 2," said senior police inspector Santosh Girigosavi of Chakan police station.

He said during investigation it was found that the man had taken her number from the firm's register and was harassing her by sending messages.

"We arrested him on January 8 under section 354 (D) (stalking) of the IPC and a day after his arrest, a charge sheet was submitted in the court," he added.

He said public prosecutor Rajiv Tadvi examined five witnesses. Police claim that it is one of the "fastest judgements" pronounced.
