Rice basmati prices firmed up by Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today following pick up in demand against tight stocks position.
However, wheat recorded fall in its prices on ample stocks position.
Traders besides uptick in demand from retailers, tight stocks position on fall in arrivals from producing regions mainly led to rise in rice basmati prices.

Meanwhile, government today reduced the import duty on wheat to zero from 10 per cent to improve domestic availability in the wake of rising prices and concerns about 2016-17 wheat crop in view of IMD's forecast of warmer winter.
In the national capital, rice basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety moved up by Rs 100 each to Rs 6,100-6,200 and Rs 4,800-6,000 per quintal respectively.
On the other hand, wheat dara (for mills) declined by Rs 20 to Rs 2,120-2,125 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded lower by a similar margin to Rs 2,130-2,135 per 90 kg.
