The Patna police today foiled an attempt to smuggle huge quantity of English brand liquor from neighbouring Jharkhand on the eve of the festive season.
800 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) hidden beneath fodder which was being transported in a vehicle was seized and the driver arrested, the police said.
Acting on a tip off, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj had constituted a team to seize the consignment.

While keeping a strong vigil over each and every vehicle, the police suspected a Tata company vehicle bearing Jharkhand registration number loaded with fodder and followed it.
Finding the police following it, the driver tried to run away but the police team managed to stop it in Nandlal Chapra locality under Ramkrishna police station area in the morning, a statement from SSP office said.
On search, 800 bottles of IMFL packed in 70 cartons were recovered, the statement said.
Driver of the vehicle Sonu Yadav, a resident of Malsalami area of Patna city, was arrested in this connection, it said.
The role of a former liquor trader was also being investigated.
The seizure was an outcome of stepped up vigil against smuggling of liquor in view of festive occasions like Christmas, Prakash Parva and New Year.
