Rich tributes were paid to revolutionary poet Subramania Bharathi on the occasion of his 134th birth anniversary, here today.
Lt Governor Kiran Bedi paid floral tributes to the statue of the nationalist poet and prolific writer Subramania Bharathi, here.
Speaking to reporters later, Bedi said she had proposed to hold programmes at Raj Nivas by inviting scholars and writers to present special talks on poet Bharathi, which would be part of the initiatives of Puducherry administration to bring to the fore the history, culture and creativity of the union territory.

Speaker V Vaithilingam, Industries Minister M O H F Shah Jahan,and Deputy Speaker V P Sivakolundhu were among those who paid homage at the statue.
Representatives of various Tamil organisations also garlanded the statue to mark the occasion.
The house where Bharathi had lived during his stay in the Union Territory, was acquired by the territorial government in 1972 and converted it into a Museum and Research Centre.
