Hollywood star Richard Gere may be headed toward an expensive divorce from his estranged wife, Carey Lowell.

Lowell, 53, the former model, Bond girl and 'Law & Order' actress, is said to want more than USD 100 million of the actor's USD 250 million fortune, reported New York Post.

"They are not getting along and they are very far apart on how much money she will get in their divorce," a source said.

"She can claim she gave up her career for him and for their 14-year-old son Homer, and that she deserves half of all his earnings since they got married in 2002," it added.

Gere, 65, a top Hollywood leading man since 'American Gigolo' in 1980, earned USD 82 million in 2013.

His bayfront estate in North Haven in the Hamptons is on the market for USD 47.5 million.

Lowell's lawyer Robert Cohen said it was too early to discuss finances.

"Nobody has asked for anything yet. But she certainly wants her fair share of the marital assets," Cohen said.

When the couple appeared in court together in October, they avoided talking to each other and Gere was un-cooperative as he menaced photographers with a big black umbrella.

Lowell, who filed for divorce in June, is living in a rented house in Bedford in Westchester County, and rents another house in the Hamptons.

This was her third marriage. She has a daughter Hannah, 24, with her second husband, actor and director Griffin Dunne.

Gere, who briefly dated Padma Lakshmi after he and Lowell split in 2013, is said to be unhappy that Lowell already has a new man she has been trying to keep very secret because the new beau is also going through a contentious, expensive divorce.
