Ridley Scott's new TV drama starts filming in Rome

Director Ridley Scott's TV drama 'The Vatican' has started filming in Rome.

Set in the present day, the new mini-series - a drama centering around the Catholic Church, stars 'Downfall' actor Bruno Ganz as the fictional Pop Sixtus VI, reported Daily Express.

The show also features Kyle Chandler, as a New York Cardinal, and British actress Anna Friel.

Filming is expected to last for six weeks and production has taken place in Rome to give as realistic effect as possible.

"The series will explore the relationships and rivalries as well as the mysteries and miracles behind one of the world's most hidden institutions," according to a statement.
