They presented a memorandum to the city magistrate addressed to the President of India in which they expressed their anguish at the demolition of Hindu temples and poor treatment meted out to the minority community in the neighbouring country.

The century-old temple in Karachi was hurriedly demolished last Saturday by a builder despite a Pakistani court hearing a petition seeking a stay on such a move.

The practice of converting girls from the minority community before marrying them off to Muslims, too, was condemned with the protesters asking the Indian government to put pressure on Pakistan to ensure the safety and dignity of the community.

The activists also raised slogans against the growth of fundamentalism across the border.
