Kerala State Human Rights Commission has ordered an inquiry into the alleged assault on an old woman devotee and her mentally challenged son inside the famous Sree Krishna temple at nearby Guruvayur.

Commission member R Natarajan, considering a petition filed by one George Vattukulam on Monday directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police, S Sreejith to make a detailed investigation in the incident that took place a few months ago and submit a report before September 29.

Petitioner George Vattukulam is the President of NGO 'Malayala Vedi'.

Vattukulam alleged that a security guard had pushed back an old woman devotee while she was offering worship inside the temple on February 23.

When she fell on the ground, her son protested the treatment meted out to his mother, following which the angry security guard assaulted him as well, it was alleged.

Radhakrishnan, the security guard, who allegedly beat up the devotee, and another temple employee had been placed under suspension by the temple board after the incident sparked public outcry.
