Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will mark the 70th Independence day at the icy heights of Ladakh along the the Sino-Indian border and flag in a special cycle rally of para-athletes.

Rijiju will honour and receive the BSF para-cycling expedition, who participated the 'Tiranga Yatra', and reach Khardoongla in Ladakh on August 15.

The 'Tiranga Yatra', which started on August 5 in Shimla, will culminate on the independence day at Khardoongla after travelling through some of the highest points along the Himalayan ranges, being guarded by Indian security forces, official sources said.

Rijiju, Minister of State for Home, will also ride the cycle for some distance along with other participants.

This is part of the 70th Independence day celebration initiated by the Modi government.

Minister of the Modi government are travelling to different parts of the country as it has drawn an elaborate plan for commemorating heroes of the freedom struggle at their birthplaces or places of action.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today visited the birthplace of Birsa Munda in Jharkhand while BJP President Amit Shah visited Kakori in Uttar Pradesh, where freedom fighters including Chandrashekhar Azad and Ramprasad Bismil carried out a daring train robbery during country's freedom struggle.

Later talking to reporters, Rijiju questioned Congress for its "irresponsible" statement accusing the Narendra Modi-led BJP government of trying to convert Arunachal Pradesh into a Hindu state.

"Why are Congress people saying something irresponsible? How can Modiji convert Arunachal Pradesh into a Hindu state? What (kind of) statement is this?" he asked.

Rijiju said the statement made by Congress was "very wrong".

Defending his tweets, the minister said the minorities are feeling insecure in neighbouring countries and come to take refuge in India as it is a very tolerant country.
