Rina Mitra is new NICFS chief

Senior IPS officer Rina Mitra was today appointed as the new Director of the National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science (NICFS).

Mitra, a 1983-batch Madhya Pradesh cadre officer, was till now working as Inspector General in the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD), where she was heading the National Police Mission.

She would remain at the top post of the premier institute under the Union Home Ministry, which awards degree in criminal and forensic sciences, till March next year or till further orders, an official order said.

Mitra had earlier served in the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) when it was created under the Environment and Forests Ministry and also credited with cracking some of the difficult cases there.
 

She had also served in the CBI for over six years and Railway Board apart from holding various posts in her parent cadre.
