Beatles icon Ringo Starr has become the unlikely new face of famous footwear brand Skechers.

The 74-year-old veteran rocker will front the fashion firm's new Relaxed Fit Footwear campaign, becoming the first musician to promote the shoe line, following in the footsteps of former American football stars Joe Montana and Joe Namath, reported Contactmusic.

In a statement, Skechers bosses say, "Ringo possesses the charm, cool charisma and instant global recognition that will elevate awareness for our popular Relaxed Fit footwear collection.

"Ringo is not only a music icon, but also a style icon and is the perfect ambassador to illustrate how our footwear helps keep you relaxed in any situation."

Starr, who also modelled for a recent John Varvatos menswear campaign, joins the likes of Demi Lovato and British actress Kelly Brook as spokesmodels for Skechers, which previously boasted Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears as brand representatives.
