Rio Oly: J-K govt announces Rs 5 lakh cash award for shooter

Jammu and Kashmir government today announced a cash award of Rs five lakh for sportsman Chain Singh who became the seventh Indian shooter to qualify for the Rio Olympic Games.

Minister for Youth Services and Sports Imran Ansari announced the cash award in favour of Singh for his extraordinary performance in sports activities.

Ansari made the announcement in the Legislative Assembly before the start of Question Hour.

Singh became seventh Indian shooter to book a place at Rio Olympics scheduled to be held from August 5 to 21.

Several legislators had raised the issue and demanded that the celebrated sportsman be honoured by the state government.
