Accused in the 2002 Naroda Gam riots case have petitioned the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged conversations between former state DGP R B Sreekumar, and former aide of activists Teesta Setalvad, Rais Khan.

"We have written to the head of the SIT to investigate the telephonic conversations between Sreekumar and Khan which the latter has put on You Tube," a lawyer representing accused Chetan Shah said.

Khan fell out with Setalvad some years ago. He had taped his conversation with Sreekumar, the IPS officer who has been speaking against the Modi government on the 2002 riots.

"In the conversation, Khan has mentioned that affidavit filed by witnesses were wrong," Shah claimed.

"Our demand is they should go to the root of the issue to find out if the affidavits filed by witnesses which were taken away by Setalvad from Khan's offices as he claims in the recorded conversations are true statements of witnesses, or if they had been tutored against BJP and RSS leaders," Shah said.

In the Naroda Gam case, former minister Maya Kodnani and former VHP leader Jaydeep Patel are among the 82 accused. A rampaging mob had killed 11 people in the Naroda Gam riots in the city in 2002.
